Department of Electrical Engineering

Electrical Engineering one of the Core Engineering Branch is most sought-after branch even by the toppers and higher rank holders at the time of admissions in IITs as well as NITs. With rapid Industrial growth in the Country including Power Sector and Heavy Electrical Industries and with more and more private sector companies entering Power Sector has resulted in opening of enormous opportunities for graduate Electrical Engineers. With the objectives of transforming our students into efficient and capable technical professionals, having sound knowledge with analytical ability, creativity and professional competence, we impart the necessary training to our graduates in this department and make them competent enough to take professional responsibility and grow and excel in whatever field they are in.

The Department is headed by Prof. Avtar Krishan Nadir, who has a vast Industrial and Academic experience of over 43 years and has specialized in Electrical Machine, Instrumentation, Power System and Control Systems. Along with other dedicated, qualified & experienced faculty members, department has the benefit of the services of Prof. (Dr.) S. Mukhopadhayay, Dean Electrical Sciences who has over 40 years of field and teaching experience and is regarded as an authority in Power Systems both in India & Abroad and has authored many Research Papers and books related to Electrical Engineering .

THE PROGRAMMES

U.G. Level (B.Tech): The Four year degree course is spread over Twelve Trimesters. The total subjects taught are 42 theory courses and over 40 Lab courses and each is examined during and at the end of the trimester by the University. Some of the courses taught are:-

P.G Level (M.Tech): The growth and progress of Medium and Mega size Industries depend upon the expertise provided by the Specialists at the top. For keeping these Industries running at top gear, Trained Specialist Engineers in the latest emerging fields of Power Electronics and Electrical Drives are required. Keeping this in view, the Departments started P.G. programme M.Tech in “Power Electronics, Electrical Machines & Drives” in the year 2004 and six batches have graduated since then.

In the M.Tech course spread over Nine Trimesters, some of the important subjects taught are:-

The Laboratories for Post Graduate programme are well equipped with latest and quality equipment for the experimentation work to be carried by the students. The State of Art laboratories have been developed to carry out Research and Development activities in Electrical Engineering field which are required for the students doing Ph.D. Electrical Engineering.

INNOVATIVE PRACTICES

The activities of the Department are “Students Centered”. Three pronged strategy is adopted for counseling & guidance of students. Firstly it is done at the level of subject teacher, secondly at the level of class counselor who counsels them on career, studies & personal problems and finally at the HOD level. The students are not only guided on the methodology of learning but also how to improve their self study and self learning and consult library, internet, learning resource materials, etc. Department lays maximum stress on attitudinal improvement and hands on experience besides inculcating ethical, social and moral values. To develop leadership qualities, students are encouraged to participate in extra-curricular activities. Conduct of Seminars, Debates, Group Discussion are regular features. Students are also guided for competitive examinations at National levels for higher studies with in and out side the country.

PROJECTS AND INDUSTRY INTERACTION

Due to locational advantage of being situated in National Capital Region, large no of industrial organization are at close vicinity which provide excellent opportunities for students to undergo Industrial training during the course of studies and undertake Industrial projects in final year e.g.
