Civil engineering is the broadest of the engineering fields. Civil engineering focuses on the infrastructure of the world which includeWater works, Sewers, Dams, Power Plants, Transmission Towers/Lines, Rail roads, Highways, Bridges, Tunnels, Irrigation Canals, River Navigation, Shipping Canals, Traffic Control, Mass Transit, Airport Runways, Terminals, Industrial Plant Buildings, Skyscrapers, etc. Among the important subdivisions of the field are construction engineering, irrigation engineering, transportation engineering, soils and foundation engineering, geodetic engineering, hydraulic engineering, and coastal and ocean engineering. Civil engineers are responsible for planning and designing a project, constructing the project to the required scale, and maintenance of the project. About the Department: The Department of civil engineering envisages imparting quality technical education and field training to Undergraduate, Postgraduate& Research students thus creating confidence to meet and accept the present day challenges of the field. With this aim, the department has vision to develop, convert and make each laboratory a full-fledged one having updated modern equipments and instruments to carryout not only the routine academic and research activities but also to offer high quality technical consultancy services to government and private organizations. The Department focuses on advanced research and education in the broad areas of Geotechnical, Structural, Transportation, and Water Resources & Environmental Engineering. The Department offers the following academic programs:
FACULTY The Department has a team of highly qualified, experienced and dedicated faculty members to take care of overall growth of the Department. . Many of the faculty members have received advanced degrees and/or training from reputed institutions in India, UK. & USA. The?University’s infrastructure has been developed under the supervision and guidance of faculty members. There is a large input of research work and developing & moderating innovative technologies. Most of the faculty members have research papers to their credit and all of them are associated with lab developments and introducing innovative lab Practices. MAJOR COURSE WORK The Course work includes subjects like: Structural Analysis, Fluid Mechanics, Soil Mechanics/ Geo-Technology, Groundwater, Hydrology, Project Planning & Management, Water Supply, Sanitary Engineering, Transportation Engineering, Remote sensing, Environmental impact assessment etc. All of them are supported by well equipped labs. SUMMARY OF LABORATORIES & MAJOR EQUIPMENTS There are well equipped laboratories supported by latest equipments to take care of the needs of practical application & help in learning testing skills: Laboratories like Structural Mechanics, Fluid Mechanics, Geology, Surveying, Soil Mechanics, Concrete Lab. Transportation Engineering, with latest equipment form the backbone of the Department. INNOVATIVE PRACTICES The backbone of civil engineering training is to adopt a culture of exposure through relevant case studies in each individual subject and deliberation. Such case studies shall give the students the insight in terms of negatives and positive of a project like developing dam site etc. These endeavors also would prepare student for the contents not included in the syllabus but relevant for further application. VISITS / INDUSTRIAL INTERACTION / PRACTICAL TRAINING The curriculum provides for summer training in an industry. It also provides for field interactions, Survey camps. It also insists on number of projects at different levels related to important aspects/groups of civil engineering course work. JOB OPPORTUNITIES: Civil Engineers can find job in Government departments, private and public sector industry, research and teaching institutions etc. Civil engineers will always be needed to maintain and repair existing facilities and structures and to construct new ones. After graduating, one can look for jobs in road projects, building work, consultancy firms, quality testing laboratories or housing projects. The experts say there is a high demand for experienced civil engineers in developed countries, but availability is scarce. Civil engineering graduates can also go in for research and take up teaching or they can open their own independent consultancy services. “Par Excellence with Human Touch” |
